Network Railcard for overseas visitors?
The Network Railcard is a good deal for off-peak rail travel if you live within about 100 miles of London. It can be purchased at a station by supplying your name, address and email address and is immediately valid to cover a party of up to 4 adults + 4 children. It costs £25 and is valid for a year. Savings are 30% for…

Anti Slip....ASR? in snow.
Soft southerner calling! I have a Fiat Punto, and the torque/grip in the ice seems appalling. It is almost impossible to get a slow crawl to get out of icy situations. The car has an 'ASR on/off' switch. I don't quite understand the effect of this, is it better to pull away with it on or off. Thanks

Main Dealer? Or Independent?
Just interested what peoples views are about taking their car to get either serviced or repaired at the main dealer garage or using a local independent. Whats your experience cost wise (im thinking main dealer is always going to be more expensive) but surely you are getting best quality attention as they only specialise in…

ASDA Petrol - Debit card payment not yet taken
Hi All I paid for some fuel around 20th December, but it still hasn't been taken. It isn't even showing within the "pending transactions" amount. Do shops have a maximum time in which they are permitted to collect? I am not saying that I don't want to pay it - just would like it collected if they are going to collect it!!…

Mechanics taking advantage
I didn't know whether it's allowed to just vent here but I have just had a shocking experience with the garage down the road who are servicing my car. They rang to say that one of the spark plugs was rusted in and that if it broke when they were removing it they would have to remove the cyllinder head at considerable cost.…

Someone making a false claim agains me...
I wonder if anyone can help. I live next to a Primary School and my house sits alongside a small private car park (which residents have permission to use, as well as have right of way over to access our driveways) but as you can imagine, being a stonesthrow from the school, gets used by parents at 9am/3pm. Anyway, back in…

Central London Road Conditions?
Hey folks I was supposed to be in central London this weekend but does anyone know what the road situation is like there, i.e. snowy/icy roads/abnormal congestion? I'll be using the A40 and mainly A/B roads so I imagine all will be well but there's nothing quite like local knowledge. :)

What to do if my car goes into a skid?
I've always worked on the premis that if the car goes into a skid, then you should steer into it. However, speaking to some friends the other day, they told that this advice is only good for rear wheel drive cars, and that as mine is front wheel drive, I should "power out" of the skid. Are they right, or should I still be…

Never hurts to ask

Hope this is the best forum for this problem. Back in October I ordered a new Fiat Panda under the scrappage scheme. The garage has been useless and I still havent received it yet, but waiting is no real problem. From Jan 2010 the scrappage otr price for my car has decreased by £255. My "Terms and conditions" for the sale…

Rubber car mats - would they help if stuck on ice patch?
My daughter rang me to help her get out of the staff car park at work as the wheels on her Smart car were just spinning as she was reversing. So before getting in the car I raided the cardboard in the brown recycling wheelie bin and took some with me to try to aid traction. The cardboard did work and it also helped some of…

I did a HPI/Data check and was emailed the following warning/advice if you are purchasing a car as issued by the DVLA regarding the V5: Release Date: 17/07/2008 DVLA is warning motorists to check the V5C registration certificate when buying a used vehicle.
