New Car price drops - can I "demand" the lower price

Hope this is the best forum for this problem.
Back in October I ordered a new Fiat Panda under the scrappage scheme.
The garage has been useless and I still havent received it yet, but waiting is no real problem.
From Jan 2010 the scrappage otr price for my car has decreased by £255.
My "Terms and conditions" for the sale say, "if after the date of this order and before delivery of the goods ...... the manufacturer's or concessionaire's recommended price ..... shall be altered ........
in the event of the recommended price being reduced the amount of such reduction (if any) which the Seller intends to allow shall be notified to the purchaser. If the amount is not the same as the reduction of the recommended price the Purchaser shall have the right to cancel the contract....."
ok I want the £255 reduction (;))
Will I have problems with the scrappage price not being the "recommended price"?
Fiat's OTR price has actually increased but their "Fiat ECO-bonus" (which at the time of my order was their £1000 scrappage reduction) has gone upto £1605.
Any help gratefully accepted.

No - I wanted to be prepared.
Have phoned the dealer - he was with a customer (some 3+ hours ago) - he will ring e back.

I would state something like 'i notice there is a price drop on the model of my car, i take it this will be reflected in the invoice price' then sit back and say nothing else. ie, dont 'ask'

I suspect they will say that the car was ordered at a specific price, etc, and therefore they may find reasons as to why its beyond their abilities to get you the discount. OR they might say 'no problem'.

On the plus side, many manufacturers are putting prices UP, so it could be worse. ;)

I think here its entirely up to the dealer.

As I read it the contract states if the recommended (OTR) price falls you must get this from the seller or you have the option to cancel.

In your circumstances this price hasnt fallen. Instead they are offering a larger discount scheme.

Not the same I am afraid.

If the dealer says no then you dont really have any right to it.

As somebody always does in these sort of circumstances(its me this time!!)
If the amount you have to hand over when you get the car, had increased would you expect tp pay the higher amount ..somehow i think not...That was the deal when you ordered im afraid...you may get lucky though..
    Good luck
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:

Gfs dad did this on a £600 tv down to £470. When you buy, ask them to honour price drops for a year

and check back. Just hope they stay true to their word.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

I don't know the legal position on this, but had the price have gone up by £255, would you be asking the dealer to pay the higher price, or arguing for the contract to stay the same. Having said that, if I was you, I would be going all out for the lower price, on the basis that the dealer may not have to pay for the car until it is delivered to them, so the deal in force at the time should the the price you pay.

If the dealer wants your business, they'll deal...
  • Read on different site a person buying a Alfa mito has had 3 price increases put on him since order date and deposit being paid whilst waiting for delivery, 2 alfa price hikes and VAT increase
  • In any car buying situation it pays to be cheeky - not rude, just a bit cheeky in what you ask for. Push the salesman as far as you can - they'll never tell you to sling your hook because they want the sale, the worst that can happen is that you come up against a brick wall. When you hit this wall, simply tell the salesman that you're not so sure about the deal and will get back in touch with them - they'll usually knock a bit more off rather than lose the sale entirely :D
