Green servicing or a rip-off?
Time has come for another service on my Micra. Lots of places are now suggesting an additional 'flush through' or 'fuel treatment' sounding thing, usually £20-£30. Others suggest an air-con 'recharge and reconditioning' for about £40-£50. Are these extra treatments actually worth it or just a way of getting money out of…

Roof Box
I've got an old and fairly small Halfords Roofbox. It's in good condition but beginning to show signs of age. My problem is - I have a new car with new bars, which my fixings are too small for. I therefore need 8mm U-bolts, T-bar fittings or a new box that comes complete with fittings (I could buy in France next week -…

Value of spare parts.
I was just down the motor factors and they had 3 cardboard boxes full of parts. About 20 brake hoses About 20 rear brake cylinders About 15 Bosch windscreen wiper blades. For a variety of vehicles. eg: Carlton, Uno, Mazda 4x4 etc. The blades fit about 20 vehicles each. I offered them £20 for the whole lot, thinking it…

Damaged car - fix first or trade in now?
Afternoon all, My wife's car was 'keyed' a while back, and we'd been wondering whether it was worth our while getting it repaired before we trade it in, as and when she wants to replace the car - or to just accept a lower trade-in value. This question has been compounded since she mis-judged the driveway last night and…

Parking ticket - invalid??
Hi everyone. My house is beside a relatively quiet A-road. 2 houses up from us is a local primary school. The Primary School is obviously set way back from the road, with a kind of drop off/pick up lane in front of it. In front of THAT lane is a row of trees, and in front of the trees is a 3m wide "pavement". People park…

Driving in London
I fancy going to London in July for a baby sling show, it is on a Sunday, and have calculated the cost of both public transport and driving. For 2 adults, it is about £50 for us to get the train, then an all day bus ticket, to get to the venue. It would cost about £35 to go by car, there is free parking for the event and…

Fuel saving - it's not what you drive....
Fuel saving, it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it. A rather extreme example was on Top Gear the other night. For those who did not watch it they took a new Toyota Prius and drove it around their test track as fast as they possibly could (I know, it's not what the Prius is about but stay with me). Following the…

Hi car buffs & generals in the know! We're going looking for cars in and around Edinburgh end of this week. Can anyone recommend used car dealers in and around Edinburgh? New Tyres Required!
Hi all My front tyres look as if they're nearly ready for renewing so I've been doing a bit of research on the net. Last time I got them done (rear 2) at Farmer AutoCare in Dunfermline they cost £58.70 for 2 x 165/70R 13 T. I've looked at all the major chains (ATS, National, Nationwide and Kwik Fit) and also blackcircles…
