my car has the incorrect size tyres fitted (155/80/13) id like to get the correct ones all round eventualy but only needs fronts at the moment

so if i get 155 /70/13 on the front and keep the incorrect 155/80/13 at the rear ...will this be acceptable for the mot as long as the same size is on each axle

To be honest, no idea re the MOT - but sure as hell doesn't sound safe to me. I'd change all my tyres for the correct sized ones.

Is it really a good idea to compromise your safety and those travelling with you plus other road users?

You could get a good deal if you buy a whole set.

MOT only requires same size on axle.

You need to have a matching size on each axle.

I believe you have to have the same size on each axle. So so long as the tyres at the front axle are the same size, and the ones at the rear axle are the same size, it should pass. Think the only other thing is you shouldn't mix cross ply and radial tyres.

A few cars do have different sized tyres on each axle anyway, and the tyre sizes you quote aren't all that different.

Only thing to be wary of is the wrong size tyres on the driven axle alter the speedo reading.

Why not stick with the 80's? Better ride, less likely to trash a rim on a kerb. One draw back is your speedo will be inacurate.

OK 70's aren't exactly low profile but if I were you I would be trying to stretch them out by rotating them and replace all at once. What is your spare?

One other idea, if you really want to change them, why not ask the car places for runners ie second hand ones with a bit of life left to tide you over until the big change over day.

70 is fat enough profile for me...the fronts are ready to change , the rears have loads of tread

its not a massive enough differance imo to alter the way it drives ...but id sooner purchase the correct ones when its time to replace

Look inside the petrol filler cap, there is usually a label stating the various tyre sizes the vehicle can have.
