a refusal to give change...
hi guys, i'm a very rare visitor but I was wondering if any of you sharpminded moneysavers would have an opinion on something that occurred to me today as I got the bus to campus (the cycle route was all flooded). When I say bus I actually mean these brand new things called 'FTR' that first transport have introduced into…

I received a letter this morning for the guy I bought my house off 18 months ago which wasn't sealed very well. Looking in it, it turns out to be a speeding fine for this guy. From what I can see this guy is in a bit of bother as 1. He has been caught speeding so 3 points & maybe a fine. 2. He has not notified the DVLA of…

Currently got a 307 and things are starting to go wrong. I am after a new or nearly new car of similar size (ideally on interest free credit) and as cheap as possible, but do not know where to start. Does anybody know a site where similar cars are catergorized together, or can anyone give me any suggestions? Cheers.

Tube fares saving money thread
I thought I'd start a thread discussing how to minimise spend on weekly/monthly/annual travelcards and Oyster cards and other tube travel. The first point is GOOD NEWS and is actually about one-off travel into London. I've only just discovered this..... Did you know that if you travel on the tube before 7am or after 7pm,…

Parking Charge Notice - PCN
I have just received a PCN for an alleged offence on 30 Sept 2006 but it only states PCN issue time. I don't remember exceeding the time limit (2 hours free parking) as I always make a careful note of my arrival time. This PCN does not state "arrival" time - can I challenge this notice as they want £100 within 7 days. Can…

Group 1 ISOFIX Car Seat?
I'm going to pick up my new car tomorrow! :j It has ISOFIX as standard and so I'm looking to buy a new car seat for my DD. She's 21 months old. I've seen on the forums elsewhere a while back that the Britax Duo (or something like that) is the best one but I'm confused. An ISOFIX car seat might be £140 but you can also buy…

Save £100 with main dealer servicing
If you need to keep your car serviced at a main dealer and happen to be travelling around at the time your car service is due, phone round main dealers in different areas to compare. I live in Southend but my local dealer Lindvale was charging way over the odds at £270. So I booked exactly the same service for £170 at…

Help with Parkking Ticket Please!!
Help - I've just been issued with my first aprking ticket - initially I was amused, because I knew I had returned within 30 mins, and could prove this. I was in a carpark where the boards state 'first 30 mins free'. However, when I rang, they said because it is a 'pay & display' car park, I should still have got a ticket.…

Finance deal coming to an end - need advice
Hi all. My 3 year Renault Options finance is coming to an end soon, leaving me with the option to buy (final payment just shy of £4000) or return the car (Megane Dynamique with all the trimmings). I'd considered getting a top up loan to buy it, but Cahoot no longer do loans (I have the fixed rate one) I'm not keen at all…

Leasing Cars: Good idea or Bad idea?
Does anyone have any advice on whether leasing cars is generally a good or bad idea? I'm not totally sure how to do the maths to prove it either way. Specifically, my brother-in-law is looking at leasing a BMW 118d Sport 5 door from a BMW garage. He has been offered an 05 reg model for £1,000 deposit and £167 per month…

Hole in new exhaust
After fitting a new exhaust I could hear a puffing sound. On checking I found a pin hole on the back box. When I called my supplier he said that they had previously queried this with the manufacturer and that is how they were manufactured now. He said the hole (like a small drill hole) is to prevent rotting from the…
