Car Hire insurance?

I read recently there are companys that insure you while driving hire vechcles, instead of using there insurance. Can't find out anything, can someone point me in the right direction.
if i had known then what i know now

    If you are looking to hire a car abroad, or rather, more than 150km from your home address then THIS may be of use to you. I have used them for Spain but fortunately didn't need to use them so can't comment on how good they actually are. Also if you are going to the USA, some companies over there may not accept it !!
