Hole in new exhaust

After fitting a new exhaust I could hear a puffing sound. On checking I found a pin hole on the back box. When I called my supplier he said that they had previously queried this with the manufacturer and that is how they were manufactured now. He said the hole (like a small drill hole) is to prevent rotting from the inside.
This is a new one on me! Anyone heard of this?

I have an 05 plate car, and the back box always has made a slight blowing sound, when I queried it I was told it was normal, and I believe there is a tiny hole for this reason too. Makes sense really.0

It's to let the water drain out, instead of sitting in the exhaust and causing it to rust.0 -

Good theory except that it wasn't near the bottom

ive heard of them having holes in the bottom, if its not in the bottom then its not alot of use is it0

It's the same thing, even though it's not at the bottom of the box, it's there to let condensation evaporate and prolong the life of the exhaust.0
