Hi All Did a search but couldnt find this, thinking about having an extension built and saw the costs of average about 1000sq m. Is this the same for a one and two storey or is there another average to use for two storeys. Thinking the foundations are one of the most expensive things the second floor may be cheaper but…

Everybody wants the cheapest quote??
I’ve been reading the odd post and I have noticed that most want to pay as little as possible for the labour of a tradesman. If you were buying a product such as a mobile phone or a car or sourcing a loan then it definitely pays to shop around for the cheapest quote on a specific product. Can the same apply to the skills…

Hi, I hope I have posted this in the right place, if not I apologise. I recently received a bill from the maintenance company that looks after the block of flats where I stay. We pay them £39 per month. The bill is for new smoke vent windows that have replaced the old ones, which according to them no longer met with new…

New RCD
Hi there; I've bought a purpose built flat in London (1967) and before I exchanged I had a spark look round to give me an idea of what needs spending to bring it up to scratch. There is no earth wire, just a L & N and earthing is through the conduits. I had it all tested and was told there was no leakage so it wasnt…

£50 quote for gas bayonet fitting?????
I've just been quoted £50 for a bayonet fitting for a gas cooker in my kitchen. The quote is for the fitter to provide and install an attatchment for the cooker (the 'bayonet' and), pipe (about a metre, probably less), clips and a chain (which I gather is a legal requirement). There is a gas pipe for the supply to the…

Rough estimate for small roof repair
I have 2 small leaks coming in from around 2 vertical pipes in my roof. They just need to have something sealed around them to stop the rain coming in (new lead?). Its a two story house but I cant imagine scaffolding would be needed for such a small job. What figure should I be looking at?

B&Q installation tip.
B&Q grade their installers from 1 to 4. Grade 1’s the worst grade 4’s the best. Always ask you kitchen designer for a grade 4 installer. You may have to wait a while for him/her but it will be worth the wait. Your kitchen installation will run smoothly and apart from any product issues, will be finished on the first…
