half brick porch, how much!!

Options
my mum has had a quote today from a local upvc double glazing company for a porch & i can't believe the price! (I have done a search, but most posts are about a year old for something similar).

it's going to be 2m x 1m,
half brick,
half pvc double glazed,
leaded windows non-opening,
pvc coloured door with half glass leaded,
pitched tiled roof.

£6,000

the rest of the house is already double glazed & she says the quality of what she was shown today was far higher (bearing in mind the original DG was done about 15 years ago...but you gotta love your mum!).

any feedback gratefully received

I'm not sure really but we have just paid just under £700 for a upvc door and small porch window.

We are still in shock over a quote for 30k+ for a 10ft by 15ft extension.

Get lots of quotes, at least 3, is my advice and use local companies instead of national.

I'm just having my house bricked up, and the 3 local building companies have all quoted 3-3500 for a replacement porch.

You will be suprised how much Porches cost but in saying that your quote is to high.
I dont think you should be paying more than £4,000
    1 day to do footing.
    1 day to build Brickwork.
    1 day to fit frames.
    2days to complete Roof.
I live near between Sheffield and Chesterfield so if you keep getting daft prices let me know.
  • Just a few days ago I was roughly quoted £1000 . today on ringing back to confirm order it is £3000 !
Surely this is taking the P. A skilled tradesman ought to know the total cost within plus or minus £100.
It's not like he's saying he found drainage pipes under the front door or the electric main rising at just that point. I' hate to do it but I'm gonna cancel even if he is an old friend of dear H. As for the previous writers quote' even with silver hall marked taps £6000 really is taking the P.
Or am I just really out of touch ?
