£50 quote for gas bayonet fitting?????

I've just been quoted £50 for a bayonet fitting for a gas cooker in my kitchen.
The quote is for the fitter to provide and install an attatchment for the cooker (the 'bayonet' and), pipe (about a metre, probably less), clips and a chain (which I gather is a legal requirement).
There is a gas pipe for the supply to the cooker, and it's about 2-3 feet away, but obviously without the bayonet fitting.
Can anyone tell me if this is a fair price? Seems a bit high to me that's all.

The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.

Fifty pounds for a Corgi registered person to install a gas cooker, supply materials, issue a gas certificate and notify building control. It seems more than fair to me. I’d book him in before he realises his mistake.:rotfl:0

It is the correct price - we charge £55 + vat for fitting a cooker or hob in the same position as old appliance - more if any pipe run required.0

Is there a difference about what is done here?
What I mean is, the quote is to do the installation in a block of council flats.
Is there anything different about that kind of work? It being a block of (council) flats.
Plus, there was also a £45 quote (cash in the hand no questions) from the councils own gas workmen - as he was working on another job - when we asked about what needed to be done. (we weren't asking for the work, we were asking what needed to be done, and he 'hinted' that if he was to do it, this is what he'd charge). Surely he can't do this 'legally' can he?The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
The price should be the same wherever it is fitted - as long as the cooker is already in the kitchen ie been delivered there. The cash job quote would be no good for you as you will need a certificate confirming the cooker fitted correctly by Corgi engineer - very important if living in rented property.0

Further to my earlier post, from 1st June 2008 all cookers fitted in multi occupancy properties - flats etc must have a flame safety device fitted by manufacturer.0

Many thanks for the advice. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0

I don’t think it was in the same position?
Materials are approx £20. £35 if your supply the gas hose. You have to provide a certificate and notify Building control. Time and diesel travelling to and from the job. Generally expenses such as insurance and corgi fees. Don’t forget the tax man. Doesn’t leave much does it? :think:0 -
