Good evening: What make and model is the replacement boiler? Does the quote include powerflush of system? Your answers to these questions as well as your location in the UK will have a significant impact of the perceived 'fairness' of the quotation. Back boiler replacement and conversion to a condensing combi is more labour and material intensive than a straight swap.

That’s a lot of work you’ve bee quoted for. Seems a fair price, especially if it includes bricking up the old fireplace opening and VAT.

If you think about it, the materials are approx £1300.00 (depending on the type of boiler), Vat £370.00, leaving £830.00 for labour. Any respectable tradesman needs to earn between £200 and £300 per day. Would you say that all this work can be carried out in three days by one person?

We have been quoted £2k to take out old boiler from kitchen and replace with a good make of combi boiler and move it to the airing cupboard upstairs, obviously to take out the hot water tank too. The guy said we could shave off 300-400 quid if we chose a cheaper boiler but our system is really old so we need a good make of boiler to make it all work better and make it last longer.

We are going to use this guy cos there will be a fair bit of labour involved, the make of boiler begins with V, sorry cant remember the name!

I would expext British Gas to quote 2.5k but we are using an independant corgi reg gas man.

I would expect BG to quote a good deal more than that for a conversion, decommissioning and removal of tanks and cylinder, conversion of gravity cold water supply to mains, upgrade to gas supply, power flush, upgraded electrics, making good, scale inhibitor and corrosion inhibitor.

You are getting all of that I hope.

We are having a filter to clean out the black gunge/muck, whatever it is that will be in the system. Also a flu out of the roof.

I dont know all about what you have just quoted, I dont know the technical side of it.

i just know the guy will do a good job as he has been recommended by my parents.

I have just been quoted £3335 for the same job, no rads though just valves, thermostat, wireless controller, powerflush, 5 year labour & parts guarantee and removal of water tank and back boiler/fire front but they don't brick the chimney back up. This was with Northern Gas. So to me your quote sounds quite good!

I think that is a very good price, especially with 2 new radiators.

Only thing I would add is that there are several makes that will give you 5 years warranty without extra payment. Even boilers that only have a standard 2 year warranty can be extended FOC to 5 years with the right installer.

You really need to check the Brand of the boiler, Vaillant or Worcester only and then you can sleep at night. That price sounds really good though. Vertical flue, BBU conversion and 2 rads is £2500 all day long but only with a quality boiler and controls.
