Halifax Home Insurance - Lapse or Cancel
I have about 10 days remaining on my current annual policy for both Contents & Buildings with Halifax. They sent some renewal documents through to me and the cost has near doubled compared to what I pad last year (to be fair I knew I was on an 'introductory' discount so it wasn't a surprise it went up). Anyway, I always…

Waste of time or valid use of service?
Just curious what other posters think. http://www.ombudsman-decisions.org.uk/viewPDF.aspx?FileID=41252 Basically, policyholder is overcharged by 4p, gets given £25 voucher as apology, then takes complaint to ombudsman looking for further compo. Is this a valid use of the ombudsman service?

Temporary car insurance for non-UK citizen
We're trying to put my father in law onto either my car insurance policy or my husbands for a week as I've just had a caesarian and our baby is in the nicu, so he's kindly coming over to help out while I recover. However it looks like neither Swiftcover or M&S who we are with will cover an Irish citizen on the policies. Is…

Need travel insurance but for belongings only
I have never had any insurance in my life but I'm going to Ukraine and will be traveling for a couple of months (more or less avoiding the problem areas). However I'd like to insure my camera, my laptop and my bicycle, which are all expensive and important tools for me. Now, as far as I can tell, travel insurance doesn't…

Subsidence query- not sure if to contact insurance co.
Hello Not sure if the right place or not but need to ask someone! A crack has appeared in the wooden door frame above my door. It's a long thin diagonal crack that 'steps' down. It's no more that 2-3mm wide at the very most. There's no sign of any cracks anywhere around the brick work in the immediate area or in the house…

Hi All In short - massive flood event July 2007 to my house (18" inside) . Insurance company paid to rectify (4 year nightmare that went terribly pears-haped but not relevant to the question here). Insurers want to settle 50-50
So last year, I was involved in an accident. I was driving along a main road and a TP driver pulled out from a junction and hit me. He then pulled forwards (I thought he was gonna drive off) and parked up on the kerb. We exchanged details, he admitted liability, I took photos and went through insurers. I spoke to my…
