Temporary car insurance for non-UK citizen

We're trying to put my father in law onto either my car insurance policy or my husbands for a week as I've just had a caesarian and our baby is in the nicu, so he's kindly coming over to help out while I recover. However it looks like neither Swiftcover or M&S who we are with will cover an Irish citizen on the policies. Is there any way we can insure him to drive our car while over here?
