Can anyone help me ? ???? ,
Back at the start of the year , jan 2014 , I had a stroke , so like most people out there I phoned my bank to inform them and claim on my critical illness cover which I had been paying for for over 10 years ( without it you cannot get a mortgage ) they said to me on the phone that they had CANCELLED my policy as I had missed one payment which was the month before my stroke (dec 2013 ) , I have not received any notice from the bank in writing , no phone call , no notice at all !!!!!

no lender has never made CI cover a condition of a mortgage. Life assurance used to be required by banks but they had mostly stopped by the mid 90s.they said to me on the phone that they had CANCELLED my policy as I had missed one payment which was the month before my stroke (dec 2013 ) , I have not received any notice from the bank in writing , no phone call , no notice at all !!!!!

Payments are made monthly in advance. If a payment is missed, you are typically given 30 days to pay it without a declaration of health required. So, that is almost two months you can be covered for after payment. After that, you typically need a declaration of health to be completed. During that period of missed payment you are normally written to several times. This would come from the insurer. Not the bank. There woudlnt be a phone call normally.
You need to clarify the dates and why the payment was missed. This is important as if the payment was missed due to being able to control your finances due to the stroke, then you will find this is often taken into account and a claim would be considered. However, if it was an unrelated issue, then it wouldnt. it may be worth checking to see what address the insurer has.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Good advice from Dunston there.
I would not throw in the towel just yet, as Dunston says check the dates.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
