Think I nearly got ripped off on this extractor fan replacement - anyone know 'plug in' type?
When we got our flat the extractor fan was pretty much dead. Had a quote from an electrician this week to put a new one in. £40 + £40 to install. Anyway, twice he didn't turn up with some excuse and wants to come next week again. Anyway curiousity got hold of me and I thought I'd at least unscrew it and see what's inside…

Any planning process experts?
My property bordered onto what was 10 years ago an old stable block that was used for some sort of storage. 2 years later it was converted into a surface engineering factory coating metal piping etc with chemicals with 50% of the 'factory' activities being conducted in the open air. The consequence was noise from…

Only one workman of two turned up and wants paying for both!
I booked two workmen to do a job for £100 each per day for three days. Only one turned up and is doing all the the work, but he wants £200 per day. The work has started, and if I agree then I will be paying what I was going to pay if both had turned up, and the work will be done, but I need some opinions on this, thanks.

Bathroom Renovation advice
Not sure if this would be the best place to place this post in the forum. We need to change the whole bathroom (tiles and all), there is not too much budget so we are just thinking wickes would be the most "affordable" place. This is not exactly DIY so I don't know if anybody would have any advice of current offers or any…

Catalytic liners or Pyrolytic
I'm just about to get a new kitchen installed, having put it off for many years in trepadation of the amount of work involved. I am getting a built in oven, and have narrowed it down to one, but it comes with 2 cleaning choices, one is the Pyrolytic self cleaning, which I have read both good and bad on. The other has…

Washing Dog Bed
I have a very large (too large to go in washing machine) dog bed not made of hard plastic but made of a soft material and waterproof. It does not have any zips to take the cover off - if it did I could wash in the machine. I have had it a number of years and is now very dirty. How do I clean it?

Experience with Integrated Extractor Fans/Hoods
Hi everyone, So we have been saving for 5 years and finally getting a new kitchen. Basically gutting everything. We love minimal design so going for handleless flat slab matte doors. We don't want an extractor fan, 'on view' so we are going to opt for an integrated one. From what I seem there are 3 different types:…

Broken star lock
The shed door has a normal yale lock and a star shaped key deadlock.the star shaped lock is not working, the key goes in and just turns and turns, there are no 'teeth' to grip it on the inside and it feels like there is nothing in there to grip it anymore. Wouldn't be a problem except the lock was engaged and I can't now…

Can you draught and soundproof a solid wood door to match that of a composite?
Hi all, I'm in need of a new front door to go on an old Victorian terrace house. It currently has a solid wood door with fairly decorative frame and top window. My options were a nice period hardwood door (4-panel, painted black), or tinker with the existing frame and squeeze a composite frame/door in to that. My thinking…
