New kitchen

Hi, just wanted to get some thoughts from people... Even better if you have had the same kitchen range -

Got 2 quotes - units and sink only. No worktop, appliances etc.

Wren - Milano ultra infinity plus - £10,000 (with their 50% off sale)
Wickes - intelliga Melrose carbon - £7,700 (with third off plus extra 15% off intelliga range)

Very similar ranges and the design is like for like with around 22 units.

Think we are going to go for the wickes one - mainly because I have read bad stuff about Wren after sales and I don't like the way Wren hassle you and don't give you a breakdown of the price... where as wickes are completely open.

Should we be trying to get even more knocked off the price? Even with the third and 15% off?

I agree with your concerns about Wren, but have you looked anywhere other than Wickes? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Wickes, but you have a stronger bargaining hand (assuming they will bargain at all) if you can produce other estimates which you would be willing to use.

Wren are the biggest supplier of kitchens in the UK by far. For every complaint you hear about there are hundreds of happy customers.

Not defending them but you only ever hear the bad stuff and all the kitchen suppliers have bad stuff so they are not alone in that regard.

P.s there is no such thing as a 50% sale, it's all smoke and mirrors.

Check out the Luca Carbon range at diy-kitchens.com.

    Thanks all.

I did look at the diy kitchens one as it is very close to the design we are after but there is limited sizes and when I started to build it I couldn't do the design we want because of this.

I get that the "sales" are just smile and mirrors... so what is a reasonable amount to try and get off the price? Will I be laughed off if I say 6000?

You could take a near-as-dammit priced plan from DIY to Wickes and see if they will price match. I don't think Wren will haggle.

We deal with a company called Omega PLC (Sheraton Kitchen range) that has the same sort of style as the Wren/Wickes integrated handle / metallic extrusions but better build quality.

Might be worth looking on their website for stockists to compare prices; independents and smaller companies will tend to be more competitive on prices as they know they're competing for business.

The Intelliga is a poor attempt at true handle less, with a few limitations. Avoid
  • Hi
Go to wickes, I’ve had a nightmare with wren. Had kitchen fitted very badly by wrens pipe under sink spit and flooded the rest of the house, splashback shattered and damaged new hob. I really wouldn’t recommend and their customer service post installation is non existent .
