How open radiator lockshield with no spindle?
Hi, the plastic cap has a central screw, so when the cap comes off i see the screw fitting underneath not a spindle. On youtube, i only see examples where the spindle is directly under the cap and you use pliers to turn it but I am baffled what to turn. The screw thread seems to be in the same place but seems too fragile…

Waterproof existing tiled shower cubicle
Hello, Does anyone know of any substance that could be used to coat/waterproof an existing tiled shower cubicle? For example, some kind of 'rubber paint' or 'liquid rubber', possibly something intending for roofs? Appearance is NOT the main concern. I'm just fed up of having to get it fixed over and over, and am looking…

What options should I considering for buying the units. My wife is thinking Ikea. Who and what else is out there that is worth thinking about?

Paint job - quote
I have a minor painting job or (jobs) that I'd like to get done professionally. First is an end wall of a living room, measures approximately 5 x 2,5 meters (or 16 x 8 feet). It has a fireplace and a built-in bookshelf. Second is a main door frame. It's suffered bit of damage on one side due to my bicycle bumping into it…

Cleaning laminate flooring!
Okay, so how does everyone else do it? I use to use the disposable wipes but to my mind it was a waste of money and not really good for the environment. The cloth always looked dirty and I could probably go through a whole pack in a day! Now I use a microfibre cloth and bucket with floor cleaner. I rinse the cloth in the…

Both showers have lost pressure!?
Hi We had new bathrooms installed a few years ago and as the pressure from them was so low we had to have a new unvented cylinder installed. Both showers have recently lost pressure (different brands) so we had the cylinder serviced but it has made no difference. One is worse than the other and that one actually started…

Heating bath water/ removing thermostatic control
Hello! I love really really hot baths but I always seem to have to pour boiling water into the bath after filling it up with hot water from the tap. I heard somewhere that domestic hot water is normally limited to a certain temperature to prevent scalding - is there any way of removing this limitation for my bath tap?…

Fitting acrylic sheet in bathroom
I can buy sheets of acrylic sheeting cheap enough and I'd like to put them on walls around a shower tray, then fit said shower cubicle (& toilet/basin onto the sheeting. I can't seem to work out how people fit the sheeting onto the walls. Our walls are a bit dodgy and screwing them makes alot of sense to me, but all I can…

Moving Kitchen to other side of house
Hi all :) Another question about the house we are about to complete on, but making a new thread as it is a completely different question. How difficult is it to move a kitchen from the front (front extension) to the back of a house? Downstairs is concrete floors, house is old (1900) and there is no existing plumbing/waste…

Black mould in sink?? :(
Hi lovely MSE'ers :) I moved into a brand new flat (newbuild by Barratt London) about 18 months ago and it's been an absolute dream. Great furnishings/fittings and a couple of teething issues were instantly resolved by the builders. Really happy with my experience. BUT, I've noticed that in one of my bathroom sinks (other…

Question about Loft Conversions
Hi all, Hope this is the right place to post? We have just exchanged, and nearing completion on our first house. I have lots of ideas of things to do in the coming years we enjoy there, and i had a quick question about loft conversion and roof types. The house is a mid-terrace, and it has a 'double pitched' roof. Excuse my…

Ceiling Extractor
Hi All, I'm looking to install a new ceiling extractor over my island in the kitchen rather than have a clumpy big chimney which will ruin the open plan space of what is actually a rather small area. I wondered if anyone can recommend any that are less than £1000! TIA :)

Concrete Slab Curing Time
Hi All, We are having a conservatory built, and have had a 100mm concrete slab laid. I understand that it apparently takes 1 day per 1mm of concrete to allow the slab to cure properly. I have two questions based on this: 1. Will the slab have been curing despite the fact it has been exposed to the elements since it was…
