Mr Venty Eco2 Wall model.
Have been toying with the idea of having an Envirovent 'Mr Venty ECO2 wall' fitted. However, the makers only mention the running costs with the in-built heater disabled. Just wondering if anyone has one fitted and would like to say how much they cost to run when left to their own devices with the heater enabled. Also, do…

How can I remove paint from pitted facing bricks?
I'd like to remove all of the paint, flaking and otherwise, from the front of my mid-terraced house. The surface paint will come off easily enough with a heat gun and flat scraper, but the Edwardian brickwork is pitted slightly in many places on most of the bricks. A wire brush would work but I don't want to score the…

uPVC door with no central bar - how secure?
Is a uPVC door (for back of house) which has no central bar (just double glazing the full length of the door), any less secure than a uPVC door which also has a horizontal uPVC bar in the centre? Does the central uPVC bar it stronger, so more difficult to break into? Or is there very little difference? Thanks

Odd size internal door solutions
Hi, I have an internal door which is basically an understairs cupboard. The size of the door is 760 wide by 1610 tall. The various options seem to be trimming down a normal size door to fit- possibly not ideal. The other option seems to be a website that does made to measure mdf doors. This was my preferred option but then…

Horns on a uPVC window frame.
When replacing sash window frames with a uPVC frame which isn't a sash, but appears of similar dimensions to a sash, it's possible to have horns added to the uPVC frame to resemble the horns of a traditional sash frame. Are there any problems with these uPVC horns, which someone considering having them installed should be…

Planning Permission in a conservation area
Hi, I'm hoping to get some guidance on some work I want to do. I live in a conservation area that has an article 4 associated with it which apparently means that there is a high level of scrutiny on making any changes to your property. The door to my garden is in my bathroom which is not only impractical but also means…

How flexible is plaster?
In my flat, the light fitting is surrounded by a decorative circle of plaster. There are cracks in the circle where it attaches to the flat part of the ceiling. At the weekend the neighbour above me had a party, which involved 'dancing' - more like co ordinated jumping - causing the ceiling in my flat to bend. Is it…

Flat roof felt need replacing
Hi, The felt on my dormer flat roofs (front and back loft dormer extension, about 50-60 years old) is bubbling so I am looking into replacing it. Shed base spikes - other alternative?!
Hi there, I'm going to put a shed on my allotment and it's going to have a timber base made out of timber I've got left over from a building project (treated). In order to drive down into the soil below, I'm after some shed spikes as per the link below but find £37 for this astronomical! Is there anything else I should be…
