Snow fell off roof damaging guttering. How to stop happening again.
Hello I'm asking this on behalf of my mum. I'll try and give all the relevant details but if I miss anything please ask. What plans are needed for a builders quote?
Want to get a single story extension done. OH has drawn the current house floor plan, then drawn the new house floor plan of the extension we'd like. Obviously all to scale. Can a builder quote from this floorplan, or will they need fully drawn architect plans? Thanks

Draughty floor near beams - how to seal?
We have a converted flat where beams and brick walls rise out of the floor. The hard wood floor is suspended. There is a small gap round all the features, presumably to allow for movement of both the floor and the wooden beams. The downside is that the draughts are significant. With 6 beams and 6 bits of wall, it's chilly!…

Great Hunt: Breathing new life into otherwise worthless items for use around the home
We want to tap MoneySavers' collective knowledge on ways you've turned things you no longer need and can't sell (think CD racks, cassette tapes, items you've ripped out of a property you're fixing up, etc) into useful things you use around your home or perhaps even pieces of furniture.

Should I remind tradesman to cash my cheque?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... Over two months ago a tradesman came to my property and did a good job, for which I gave him a cheque for £69. So far the cheque has not been drawn on my bank account. Should I get in touch and remind him, or trust that he will find it and deposit it before it expires?

Is it viable to DIY-fit a Velux/Rooflite type window?
Is it viable to DIY-fit a new Velux/Rooflite type window and flashing? It's for an attic, and I'm really asking if this is achievable from the inside, although I do have ladders which will reach above the gutter and could support some sort of apron to catch anything I might drop (it's a terraced house which fronts directly…
