skimming walls and screeding floors

Can anyone give me advice on screeding & skimming?
We have removed old wall paper which seems to have been applied to bare plasterboard, and it was hard to take off without damaging the plasterboard paper. So we are thinking skimming the plasterboard with plaster is the best option.
What is a good skimming plaster to go for and do we need to preparevthe plasterboard before skimming?
Also in an upstairs bedroom there is a tiled fireplace hearth with otherwise timber flooring. The fireplace has been removed in the past. The tiles are quite loose so we were thinking to remove them all and screed until it is level with the timber floor boards. Is this the best option? And what ready mixed screed would you recommend?

Plastering is an art. I'd not attempt my own plastering if I wanted a better finish than you have now!
Thistle multifinish is used by all of our plasterers.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

OP. respectfully, from your post, I would suggest that you ate not the best person to be taking on plastering. If you are asking such basic questions, you would be well advised to get three quotes from plasterers and seek theiropinions. The walls may well need replasterboarding, which is something a tradesman will be able to tell you.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I do loads of DIY but wouldn't even consider plastering.
I took my 30' x 12' living room back to bare brick in October including ceilings ripped down and chimney breast removed. Did EVERYTHING myself except plastering which I left to the experts.
I've tried to patch plaster small areas before but am useless at it!!
