light switch not working

Hi
I have a light switch in my hall that has 3 switches, one for outside light, one for hall downstairs and one for hall upstairs. these no longer work. I have checked the fuse and its not tripped, I've reset the fuse but still no joy... I checked the bulb in the hall which works so im assuming its the light switch?
is it normal for all 3 switches to go faulty at the same time? could It be something else? its a rented house so im waiting for landlord to send electrician, its been nearly 2 weeks and am still waiting.
I thought maybe I could try replacing the switch? the button that controls the upstairs bulb also has a switch upstairs which no longer works the bulb upstairs...would the faulty 3 button switch downstairs also stop the switch upstairs to work?
how can I test its the switch? shall I just replace it?
Thanks

One feed to all three circuits I suspect. Probably as simple as a loose wire. Your landlord should get it fixed. Would probably take an electrician 5 minutes. Don't mess with it.0

I took off the switch to see if theres any wires come out but all wires are tight and secure.0

Did you take a picture of wiring? You have lost a live feed somewhere.0

there's no wire that's going nowhere...all wires are going into the switch terminals.0

Depending how the wiring was done, the live feed could be on the upstairs switch. Have you checked that?0

probably a loose live or neutral in a light
have u changed a light fitting recently??? this would be first point of call0 -

no... ill check it tomorrow. I thought the single upstairs is running from the main one downstairs as the downstairs switch has the jumper wire0 -

What do you mean 'jumper wire'?0

It sounds as though your lighting ring is through the switches rather than the light ceiling roses. It may well be that the fault is in a different switch not feeding to the one that does not work.
As the upstairs bulb is also switchable from downstairs then it is understandable that it doesn't work.
You need to wait for the electrician to check it outThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
