light switch not working

As others have said, it could be a break in the cable , even within the back of the light switch. If when you wiggled it, it worked, then the 'break' touched when you did this. Sometimes it's hard to see it as if the break in the wire is within the outer insulation, then this holds it together. Try checking again, feeling that section of cable very carefully!
If there is a break, you can use 3 or 5A connector block to add a new piece of cable if the old one is now too short
Also worth checking that all the connections (lives, switch live and neutrals) are tight in the non functioning light0 -

Yes - exactly. It was !!!!!! who was referring to "lighting rings"; not me. Just thought I'd point out that the wiring would be different although fundamentally a ring could be made to work.0 -

Sounds like there is a break in the circuit very near to the switch. Maybe a joint a few inches back perhaps? Is there another switch backing onto this one in the next room?
I cheked the switch directly behind the switch not working, and your right, there was a loose cable, infact when I took of the switch, all 4 cables came out and a little screw fell out too! it was damn hard to get the little screw in but got there in the end, wired it all up and now everything is working!
shame I didn't do this 2 weeks ago!
Anyway, thanks very much for all your help0 -

You may want to consider having a spark inspect/ test the rest of your installation in that case.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
