Who is beat for kitchens? We need 5!
Hiya! I was wondering if anyone could share an experience with dealings with kitchen companies? We need 5 however 3 of them may be salvageable in that the cupboards are fine just need new doors and worktop (these are from B&Q). I have arranged an appointment for them to come out however I don't know if they're the…

Cracks appearing around windows - please help!
Hi, I've never posted here before but was hoping someone would be able to advise me. We bought and moved into our house around 4 months ago. On Sunday, we noticed that a crack had appeared above our bedroom window, roughly vertical stretching from the top corner of the window to almost the ceiling. The following day, we…

Replace old analogue heating timer
Hi In the kitchen we have a Baxi combi 105e boiler and a Randall 103 timer next to it, also Sunvic TLX thermostat in the hallway. We are wanting to replace the programmer system with a 7 day digital programmer. What is the best way? Is the thermostat in the hallway hard wired back to the kitchen? Do we get a new programmer…

Replacing a Trevi Therm shower-head
Is it possible to do this? I think Trevi is made by Ideal Standard and wondered if we could get one of their shower heads rather than tracking down a company that still stocks Trevi spares (I have a feeling the Therm is discontinued now).

Fogged windows...READ THIS
Just a tip really. We have lived here some 30 years, and the double glazing is as old. Recently, and all of a sudden, most of the West facing and South windows have broken down, fogging and looking horrid! Well, first reaction was ouch, my wallet hurts. I looked at ads, and saw that drilling holes in and cleaning was £60…

How much to rewire 2 bed 1st floor loft area in Essex
Can anyone advise what the average hourly cost & time would be in Essex area for a rewire of a small 2 bed terraced house, 1st floor lighting system in the loft area & install 15 halogen fire rated lights? Removing loft boards and ensuring loft insulation doesn't touch new lights etc. Have had a quote which seems quite…

Reusable plastic stop ends for temporary radiator removal
I've bought two of these stop ends in order to block off pipes whilst the radiator is not in situ. Do they just push on and are they reusable? I guess a little grease on the rubber rings won't go amiss.

Landlord won't clear garden...
I've been in my home for around 6 months and during this time, I've been the perfect tenant. The house was bought by my landlord, she did minor renovation, and was then sent to Crete with the RAF, so couldn't do any more. We were looking for a place to live with a decent garden for the dog - and thus, when we looked at the…

Setting boiler temp or rad TRV, what's more efficient?
Hi all I have an ariston combi boiler which rather annoyingly does not have an external thermostat control. It has a 24hr timer and 2 other controls, one for hot water temperature and the other for radiator temperature. About 70% of my radiators have TRV's on them, the others just have regular valves. When the weather is…

Finding an architect to plan an extension
What is the best way to find an architect to plan an extension (to a house)? I have got a list of architects in the area (Norwich) but looking on their websites they all seem to focus on big projects (even though some say they do house extensions / remodelling). I am not yet resident in the area so don't have any local…

RIP Oven - repair or replace?
Recently bought a house, (electric) oven/grill worked when I moved in but the other day I turned on the oven and nothing happened. The gas hob still works though, and there is power for the spark to ignite it when switched on at the wall. The oven/hob is pretty cheap, new it's £280 and I don't know the age or history of it…

Argh - leak!
The flat two floors above and one floor over (so thankfully not directly above me) had some sort of flooding issue on Saturday, with the result that in one corner of my living room there is a wet patch slowly working its way along the two edges of the ceiling and down the inside corner of the wall. I noticed it yesterday…

Fitting a wireless room thermostat
Hi, I currently have a standard gas boiler with a hot water tank, controlled by a Sunvic Select 207 XLS programmer and a Danfoss room thermostat mounted in the living room. How to prevent damp drying laundry indoors?
Hi, any advice would be appreciated. I live in a small, top floor flat and don't like using my tumble dryer for clothes as a) it costs more and b) I've had bad experiences with clothes shrinking, and so I prefer to dry them on an airer. I use the tumble dryer for large items, sheets and such like. But how can I dry clothes…
