Setting boiler temp or rad TRV, what's more efficient?

Hi all
I have an ariston combi boiler which rather annoyingly does not have an external thermostat control. It has a 24hr timer and 2 other controls, one for hot water temperature and the other for radiator temperature.
About 70% of my radiators have TRV's on them, the others just have regular valves. When the weather is like it is now, I am never sure whether it is best to have the boiler radiator temp set to 8 (fairly high) and then set my TRV's down to around 2-3, or to adjust the boiler down.
Is either way better, or more efficient? Not sure what would cause the boiler to cycle more....
Any advice appreciated!

Is your boiler a modern condensing model? if so then the lower the temp set point, the more efficient it is, I run mine at only 50'C
if it is not then I don't think it really matters what you set it to.
The TRV's regulate the temp in the room, not the actual flow of hot water, as the set point temp is reached they throttle down to give out only the amount of heat required to keep the room at the desired temp.0
