Energy-saving tips for the bedroom
In cold weather * Set the heating to switch off a short while before you go to bed – that way it’ll still be nice and warm as you get ready for bed but the heating won’t stay on unnecessarily once you’re tucked up. * Set the heating to switch on just long enough before you wake up for the house to be warm by the time you…

Water meter installation
I recently had the water company around to "assess my property" for a meter. They said I didn't have enough pipe clearance around the stopcock in the kitchen and I had to get it adjusted to their requirements before they would fit a meter. I had thought perhaps naively they would fit it outside in any case, but asking me…

One of our upstairs doors is glass-panelled. The glass is textured and orange/tobacco-coloured and we're looking for a cheap way of disguising it, without replacing the entire door. (The room isn't currently used as a bedroom.) Would painting the glass panels with white tile paint be an option, do you think? Any other…

I am in the process of buying a house and plan to do a rear extension. There is a manhole (shared sewer) which I believe will be very close the rear extension foundation; as close as half a meter. I'm looking for a lightweight cordless screwdriver/drill combi for small odd jobs, since I can't sustain heavy weights nowadays. Best paint for bins
I will be getting new bins for recycling and to make sure they don't vanish I have decided to use stencils (home made to save money) to put my house number on them instead of these sticky numbers which can be removed. What is the best paint to use that can't easily be removed? I was thinking of using car spray paint.
