Black worktops, would you have them?

Hi
We are about to start renovating our kitchen and want to do something really modern. I love the idea of cream units and black worktops but how practical are they? A friend had black floor tiles in her kitchen and hated them as she said they were much harder to keep clean than you would think.
And what about the really glossy finish versus the matt look?

I've got black worktops in the kitchen (matt). They do show the least little bit of mess or crunbs, but they look nice and you're going to keep the worktops clean no matter what colour, so they're not a lot of extra work.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I wouldn't. Have black in the bathroom and it shows everything .
Remember a friend who had matching copper sinks and he did everything possible not to use them, cleaning was a nightmare but not cleaning was worse.
I have white cupboards that show every mark, but black granite is a step too far.0 -
We had black granite effect work tops in our old kitchen and they looked fab !
Mrs would wipe them down with a disinfectant once a day then lightly mist with baby oilYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Ive got bored of black worktops very quickly. I think they really date a kitchen to early 00s0

Forget the baby oil bit, that's for a different forum,, but hell no, no one prepares sandwiches directly on a work top, well, not for long they don't
Personally I wouldn't have any solid coloured worktop, laminate or granite, it's just too difficult to keep them nice.
Quick waft over with anti-bacterial spray on our multi coloured tops and forget 'em.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I have black and it seems no different to any other colour as I like the worktop to be clear of goo all the time anyway."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

I have black solid granite tops, I don't think they show up any dirt any more than my mum's light coloured ones. Once they're wiped that's it - I always just give them a quick spray after preparing food anyway because I don't want the surfaces to be sticky.
I can understand not wanting black tiles, as you're less likely to clean the floor everyday, but I'd assume you'd be cleaning after preparing food each time so it wouldn't apply here.0
