Black worktops, would you have them?

I have blue pearl granite on top of high gloss cream cabinets and adore it. I was going to go for a plain black but the thought of seeing smears put me off. With the pearl effect this is very forgiving
Being granite I work directly on it same as lostinrates. Great huge space for rolling out pastry and kneeling dough. Also love that I can put hot pans on it as well less clutter on the work top the better0 -

Stone especially, one of the benefits is a cool surface for rolling pastry etc. I wouldn't chop on a surface, but I would and do want the surface and cleaning routine that means I can prep and cook using my surface directly for rolling, kneading etc. often this is bigger than boards, and that's why expensive wipe down cool stone becomes better value.
Which is why many of the surface suppliers will offer to finish 1 of your cut outs as a cutting board, to localise any contamination and damage.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I would get a worktop that's a combination of coffee stains, breadcrumbs and diced carrot. Unlike black, easy to keep clean....or at least look like it is.
which is why I went with this
Pick out the stains on that.
That was actually part of the reason we chose that, but mainly because I like stone to look like stone.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

My sister has that sort of granite, and you can't see where the food is so constantly put your elbow in a dollop of something.0

We are about to start renovating our kitchen and want to do something really modern. I love the idea of cream units and black worktops but how practical are they? A friend had black floor tiles in her kitchen and hated them as she said they were much harder to keep clean than you would think.
And what about the really glossy finish versus the matt look?
Matt will probably be less work than gloss. However buy what you like. Quality worktop @ around £80.00 per sq. m. is relatively cheap and easy to change if you get fed up with it. Available in a huge range of finishes it should last the lifetime of your kitchen when correctly fitted.0 -
I wouldn't have black. Shows smears particularly if glossy. Had my kitchen done 2 years ago. I have Duropal laminate. Light background with speckle design. Still looks very good and easy to clean. Could supply photo if needed.0

I think matt black/grey is fine. Don't be put off light units, we have cream (matt shaker style) an they're lovely. Just because you can't see dirt doesn't mean it isn't there ;-).0
