How to disguise these hideous glass panels?

One of our upstairs doors is glass-panelled. The glass is textured and orange/tobacco-coloured and we're looking for a cheap way of disguising it, without replacing the entire door. (The room isn't currently used as a bedroom.) Would painting the glass panels with white tile paint be an option, do you think? Any other suggestions?

cover the door with hardboard and paint it white0

Ditto the above, however before doing so try blocking the light out with papers etc - see how dark it makes it then decide if they really are that hideous.
A sheet of thin MDF/hardboard should be cheap enough, fit it with panel pins etc.0 -
Remove the glazing bars holding the glass in. Remove the glass. Replace with different glass or 4mm mdf or ply and replace the glazing bars. Job done!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Or embrace the retro look and learn to live with it. Only another 50 years, and you'll be regretting that you ever got rid of it...No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

That's the proper way to do it, but that's probably far too much work for the OP, my reply was going to be "change the glass or change the door", I'd change the door.
Yes, hardboard is an option but it looks hideous, probably worse than existingI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
When I first moved in my house, it had been made into 2 flats and upstairs, all the doors were glazed units, with one piece of glass. The previous owners had put wallpaper over the bedroom ones and then painted over the top. They looked bloody awful.
OP I would do exactly what Money mate has posted and get one of those doors for £16. It would only cost you pint money to get someone handy to fit it for you.
Whatever you do to try and disguise it, it will look really naff and wind you up, believe me.0 -
You may even be able to sell your retro door for enough to cover the cost of the new door plus fitting and painting.
People go crazy for retro stuff!0
