making a fence taller
I have a situation where I need to make an existing 4ft wooden fence higher - ideally up to 6ft. What is the best way to do this? I've googled around and found "post extenders" that I could use to make the posts taller, but then is it as simple as adding on a new fence panel or trellis on top?

Help - Pop up waste stuck closed!
Hi, Hopefully someone can give me a bit of advice. The pop-up plug in my bathroom sink is stuck closed. It seems the black seal around the side is slightly out of place, and the plug has gone in too far, so it's firmly stuck. I have tried twisting it from the top, as I normally do to remove it for cleaning, but I can't get…

Any way to sort a useless bathroom fitter out?
We bought a bathroom from a local showroom who have approved fitters that they ask you to use. They promise a seamless, stress free experience where the whole job is project managed by this one bathroom fitter. We have now had 5 weeks with no water upstairs and no functional toilet in the entire time. We have a room with…

Advice please - botched job by tiler
I wonder if anybody can help me. I had my kitchen tiled just over a week ago and am not happy with the job. I didn't immediately realise that the tiler did not put the cornice back properly on the cupboards. The edges don't meet and one of my cupboards won't shut because a screw has burst through it. When I moved the…

Shaving 5mm off a Garden Gate
Hi All, I've just refitted and overhauled a three-part 'concertina' gate in my garden, but due to the adjustments I have made the main gate no longer closes easily. Whilst forcing it closed is possible it puts massive strain on its supporting beam which I want to avoid. I think removing about 5mm from the edge of the gate…

Not sure whether to back out of this?
Hello, Right..I do know that you'll probably laugh at this question.... I've recently had some emergency plumbing work done by a great lad who I got in touch with via a mutual friend. He was very professional and did a great job - it was in his own time and I got 'mate's rates' for the work - all now complete and I'm very…

Painting architraves, door frames and skirting
I have to paint the above with Dulux gloss, and would appreciate advice. The skirting is pre-primed MDF which I will give a coat of primer as it is back to bare MDF where I sanded screw holes. And two architraves were stripped to bare wood. But most architraves, and the door frames, are old paint sanded back a lot to get…

Tradesmen and women
Removed for security concerns. Sorry. I know it's annoying when people do this, so in order for the subsequent posts to make sense, the gist of it was tradesmen expecting women to be home all day to let them in, but not men.

Washing machine - is this too tight a fit?

I ask as I have the following space for a machine: Width: 60cm Height: 86cm The machine that I have my eyes on measures as follows: Width: 59.5cm Height: 85cm This seems way too tight to my mind bearing in mind that the machine will of…
