Tradesmen and women

Removed for security concerns. Sorry.

I know it's annoying when people do this, so in order for the subsequent posts to make sense, the gist of it was tradesmen expecting women to be home all day to let them in, but not men.

  • You'd be better off posting this on mumsnet. The nutters over there will cyber-lynch your fireplace fitter for you.

Are you committed to having him do the work? If nothing has started, I would look for someone else.

Can I ask how much he is charging to fit a fireplace? I need this doing sometime too.

    Exactly.

Sorry.... but I can't get my head around the fact that you expect a tradesman to do a job for you, but you expect him to arrange his workload with other customers, to not inconvenience you.
What if all his other customers do the same thing? Is he supposed to work evenings and weekends when people are in?

If I were the tradesman, it would be "no thanks,,, I don't need the aggro!".
Or, he makes an appointment, and it's YOUR problem about how you make the house available at that time.

I did read your original post..and was going to come back and post something - now that I can see where you're coming from my post and thoughts are more valid actually!
I wondered if this was your 'main' issue as it were...

Quick note as regards timings in your original post - 3pm - I wouldn't agree to that - that would take a massive chunk out of a working afternoon for me. %pm I'd have no issues with as there would be less time for me to make up and I could go in early that day or the next..just my view on that. :)

I've experienced the same thing too - I was with my ex for 14 years and in that time we dealt with estate agents, plumbers, builders, electricians, plasterers..you name it!

I say 'we' dealt with..but that isn't quite true as even if my partner contacted them initially it was always me that they followed things up with.
Admittedly we did give both our mobile numbers but my partner was doing most of the queries and calling them but they would automatically call me back with the responses.

Any time that one of us needed to be there it was always a request to me first - even though my partner worked from home a lot of the time (and they knew this).

They lost out a bit with me - well one or two of those listed above did - I wasn't quite as ready to just say yes to anything as my partner was! :)
