Self build questions
Hello all, We live end-of-terrace and have extended the terrace to add another whole separate dwelling on the end, thus making ours mid-terrace. I have a few questions, if anyone could help answering them, that would be great: 1) We will need to adjust our deeds as our property has become two - and we want to sell one of…

I have to bite the bullet and buy a new UPVC front door. Has anyone used this company as I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Just to clarify, we're on our 3rd hardwood front door in 9 years! Architect Fees Query - Help!
Hello, I am looking for some guidance regarding how my Architect is working out his fee. Basically my concern is that he is basing his % fee on the build construction costs inclusive of VAT. Thus we will effectively be paying vat on vat as his professional fee will include vat. I would have thought that his % fee would be…

Connecting a replacement Gas Hob
Hi Hoping for a bit of clarification from someone in the know. My parents recently had the Kitchen replaced, part of this work included the replacement of a gas hob. The kitchen fitter subbed this work out to a gas fitter. We suspect that whilst the fitter works for a Gas Safe registered company, the work may have been…

Buiilder overcharged
Hello, I am in need of great help. I have just installed new kitchen through a local builder bought from B and Q. He gave a detailed quote for £1000 for installation (for 6.5 days) and £500 for materials. He mentioned if he has to do more work because he unexpectedly meets up with difficulties, it would be more for the…

cat poo
Sorry for vulgar post but the cat from 2 doors down keeps pooing all over my lawn...every morning there is a new one. I have a small child and I find this disgusting. I pick it up but every day there is a new one and remnants get left. I have tried spray repellant, toy snakes (my mum suggested cats are scared of them!) i…

Where do you lot buy your furniture?
I live in a dolls' house. OK, it's a little bit bigger but not much. When I bought it I bought a load of Ikea furniture, and it's fine and it works, but I promised myself that as time went on and as a money was available I'd replace it bit-by-bit with some better stuff. Since then I've struggled to find good furniture in…

Is my washing machine broken?
Sorry if this seems like a daft question! I have a washing machine that is 2 years old. I'm wondering if the heating element could be broken because my clothes always feel cold when I bring them out of the washer, no matter what temperature I put them on at. The door never feels warm either. The clothes looks and smell…

stainless steel sink advice please
I need a new 1.5 bowl s/steel sink but I've never bought a new one before...some I have looked at are ridiculously flimsy, others are hugely expensive. I have seen one in Howdens (Lamona) for almost £190 which is good quality and another on the BES website which is almost half the price (part no.18343). Unfortunately the…

Repairing chips is in a stone fireplace
A colleague has a light coloured stone fire surround with some chips which he would like to fill, and he does not want to pay a lot for a large bag of filler. Does anyone know of reasonably priced touch up kits or similar for ~ £10 max? The chips are very small.

Garage side door
Hi, This is my first post here. I always find this place genuine with honest opinion. In my new house the garage does not have any back/side door. Only main shutter. I want to know how much it will cost to dig a hole at the side of garage and put a normal door. I am going to open yellow pages now to search local builders…

Any advice welcome please. Our plastic dustbins have been severely gnawed by squirrels in the last few years - they have put big holes in them ! We have had to resort to putting house bricks on the lids to stop squirrels & foxes getting inside. So we are planning to buy new bins. Anybody recently had this problem and found…

changing sink waste?
I would like to change the waste in our bathroom sink. Its a click-push type one, but it is leaking, and has a very bad design (the bit that the plug screws into is plastic, and takes up more than half the width of the waste-making it impossible to clean it properly :( ) How easy it it to change over (we won't be DIYing,…

DT92E thermostat
Anyone familiar with the Honeywell DT92E wireless room thermostat? According to the user guide, it is supposed to display the measured room temperature. However mine shows the temperature setpoint all the time. Is there any way of changing this? I'd like it to display the room temperature by default.
