Brand new secondhand oven !

Options
Hi there,

I've just bought a brand new Stoves electric built under double oven off a lady who never used it.

It come with 2 wire shelves. It also has a metal roasting tray and a solid metal cake tray both of these fit into the shelf runners at the side of the oven and therefore don't need to sit on a shelf to be used (I hope that makes sense).

Along with all the shelving came a glass shelf which looks like a glass roasting tin/glass dish. This also slots into the shelf runners at the side of the oven but I have no idea what this is supposed to be used for.

I rang Stoves customer service and they tell me that none of their ovens come with the glass dish/shelf that I was enquiring about - but they must do as I have one in my oven :rotfl:

Does anyone have any idea what this is supposed to be used for ?

Sue xx

    Hi there,

    I knew I didn't make sense !!!

It's definitely not a pyrex dish, it's a purpose built glass dish that slots into the shelf runners/supports at the side of the inside of the oven eliminating the need to use the actual wire oven shelf to sit it on.

some of the models online sya they have a removable inner glass door. could it be that? that might explain why it fits across the width of the oven

I've looked on the Stoves website and couldn't see anything on there. It's not a removable inner glass door but I guess it could be a drip tray or maybe it's for a giant lasagne :T

    Curiouser and curiouser.

Our gas oven from the early 80s has something like this which attached to the door itself. I guessed it was for roasting while leaving the other two shelves empty? Probably intended for people who cook big Sunday roasts. I hated it though, it sloped hot oil around whenever the door was opened and had to be navigated around to get anything in or out of the oven, so it's no longer in use.

I also am not sure about big trays that slot in to the runners like a shelf. They block the heat from flowing around the oven properly and stop things cooking I find. Wire shelves with smaller trays/dishes on them work best.
