changing sink waste?

I would like to change the waste in our bathroom sink. Its a click-push type one, but it is leaking, and has a very bad design (the bit that the plug screws into is plastic, and takes up more than half the width of the waste-making it impossible to clean it properly )

How easy it it to change over (we won't be DIYing, just wanting to know how long it should take-we are having kitchen fitted, so wanting to get an idea of what the cost should be if I get the plumber to do it at the same time)

Are they a standard size? Can we just buy any one to swap it over. I would like another push one, but I would prefer one with a metal screw, so it could be easily cleaned. I do not want a pop up waste (our taps are fine)

Can anyone recommend a good make of plughole?!

eeeew, replace with a good ol' chain plug waste. not a fan of pop up - even the metal ones get skanky. first job i did when we moved was ripthem out and replace with nice new pipes, traps and chain plug wastes. Should be able to remove, replace in half an hour, depending on access and how much cleaning needs to be done.
