Any great deals on appliances?
I have just bought a house that needs EVERYTHING doing to it. I am looking forward to it but it clearly takes lots of my time and therefore I have less bargain hunting time to spare. I need a silver tumble dryer (Beko if possible as it will sit next to my beko washing machine so would be nice to match) an American fridge…

Price of picture frame glass cutting?
I bought two picture frames from the charity shop to put up in the living room. Tonight i settled in to get the photos framed and mounted. It started raining, so DH jumped up to close the windows and in so doing stood on the glass of one frame. The actual frames only cost me £3 each, but DH insists that it will be pretty…

Any solutions to this shower problem?
We're not allowed to make holes in walls or screw anything to them in the rental property we're staying in. Fair enough, but the bath screen is tiny and the bracket the shower handset fits into, doesn't angle so the spray shoots (I use that word loosely as the shower is useless) directly down the length of the bath. That's…

Using hoover with sander?
I'm currently sanding down an old oak bureau bit by bit and have asander that I can attach a vacuum cleaner to. Is this likely to damage the cleaner? I am worried about dust getting into the motor. I do have the choice of using either a Dyson or a Henry (that has bags in it). Would like reassurance please? Many thanks

Does anyone rate the new baxi bermuda bbu?
There seems to be a lot of negative opinions of this boiler. I was wanting to get an overall picture of whether we should consider one. So would be grateful if anyone had any opinions of the boiler in terms of Price? Quality? Ease of fitting if you already have bbu? Thanks!

We are short of storage space and have an old tractor which…

Watering plants whilst on holiday
hi, recently i went away from home for the weekend leaving 3 plants behind. i gave them to a good neighbour to water everyday (house plants) and whilst 2 seemed okay when i got back, the 3rd, which i absolutely adore, seemed like it had withered away. i don't really want my plants to die over a weekend, so was wondering if…

Help -mould on external brickwork of house
Hi, I've searched the forum but can't find anything directly relevant, so hope someone can help. I recently noticed a layer of greenish mould all around my whole house just above ground level. It looks worse next to the ventilation grids. I know our house is not well ventilated because the people we bought it off had…

Asbestos in Loft Insulation?
I have discovered that the loose fill loft insulation in our recently acquired house is Vermiculite. They did a pretty shoddy job of it imho - bits of silver foil and chipboard floating about amongst it all. I was going to bag it all up and replace with standard rockwool type rolls up to 270mm as currently recommended, but…

Wickes Magnolia Trade Paint
Just don't buy it. Really really don't. Bad reviews for it on their website and we have spent a fortune and many hours trying to fix our hall/stairs/landing but ultimately we need to repaint it again. :(

Wood/laminate flooring
Am I right in thinking that wood/laminate flooring needs a bit of time to sit in your house to get used to the temperature and the environment before you lay it? Also I'm budgeting around £20 per m2 including underlay... Will that get us some ok quality stuff? We're only intending living here for a further 2-3 years so it…

Combi boiler issues
Thought i would post uo here to see if anyone has some further knowledge into the issue. Our current Grant External Combi boiler (oil fuel), only a year old, has started to continually lock it self out and does not ignite. It goes through the whole purging sequence however when it is ready to ignite it just cuts out again.…

washing machine only half filling with water
Hi guys and gals Just as the title says I have recently moved the washing machine in order to tile underneath it. I have now put it back in its original position but it now appears to be only half filling with water. Is this because it has been moved ? Or maybe my tiling is not dead level and there is some kind of snsor…

Free windows fitted in return for publicity shots
I had a phone call yesterday offering me free windows throughout my house in return for before and after shots of my house being used for publicity shots. I'm always very sceptical of this sort of thing and it really does sound too good to be true. Wondered if anyone has any experience of this sort of thing?
