Help -mould on external brickwork of house

Hi,

I've searched the forum but can't find anything directly relevant, so hope someone can help.

I recently noticed a layer of greenish mould all around my whole house just above ground level. It looks worse next to the ventilation grids. I know our house is not well ventilated because the people we bought it off had double glazing installed but no ventilation work to compensate. There is some black mould on the interior brickwork in the kitchen also. The survey (several years ago now) said there was a bit of rising damp but OH was adamant it was just condensation so refused to get it treated.

The most concerning part for me is that outside the kitchen where the mould is there is a brick that appears to be crumbling and I don't know if the mould/damp is causing it. Now I'm worried the whole house will crumble and collapse! What should I do, and who do I get to do it? Sorry, I am DIY-cluless.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The Green algae on your bricks is not a problem at all. Its common on many houses and is indicative that there is moisture around, but is not indicative that that moisture is getting into the hopuse.

If you have a jet washer, just clean it off with that.

The mould in the house is caused by too juch moisture form baths, showers, cooking , drying clothes etc and lack of ventilation.

You need to ensure the window is open during and after a shower, the bathroom door is closed all the time.
