stink pipe help please, (bit long winded!)
Can anyone help? We have two toilets, (and a very bad smell!), and we have a cess pit. The downstairs loo has a stink pipe that runs up, inside a crawl space in the eaves beside our bed room, where it becomes a plastic pipe like the sort you connect to a tumble drier. It emerges in the loft then trails along the loft floor…

Order of work? painting vs heaters/ light fitting
It's probably a silly question but here goes... What would be the best order of work in this case... Want to get all the rooms painted, but also need to change some wall mounted convection heaters and change the light fittings to new roses & pendant lights. I'm guessing the heaters need to be done before the paint (or…

Cellar conversion to utility?
A bit of a "thinking aloud" thread really, hoping to pick MSErs minds on this :D We have a decent-sized two-room cellar under the house, head height is pretty good (between 6-7 feet). We use it for storage of non-precious things as it is slightly damp - can't store cardboard boxes or wood directly on the floor as they…

Help! Electrics have tripped...
It seems to be the sockets but I have now switched off every single socket I knew I had, as well as some I didn't. The only thing left is the fridge freezer but I'd have to physically remove it from it's cupboard to get to the socket. That can't happen. Is it definitely going to be the fridge freezer or is there something…

Builder Problems
I'm hoping for a bit of guidance on how to deal with a bad builder I have in at the minute... Basically hired him to do some refurb and refresh work. His quote was not the cheapest by any means and he had good references. Started off okay, but the problem came with bathroom installation. He quoted £1650 for fitting 2 new…

Laying limestone slabs over concrete slabs?
So, I have a dreary patio of about 4mx3m laid using large concrete slabs. Could I source some thin (say 10-15mm) limestone slabs and just lay these on top, maybe with special adhesive. There's no problem about coming above the DPC.

House Extensions
Sorry if this is really a stupid question but what is the first step after you decide that you want to build onto your house? Would you have to contact a architect to see what was possible or do you need to know exactly what you want first?
