Ellis Kitchens - any feedback/info?
Hi all. I have searched for some info on Ellis Furniture / kitchens, but nothing comes up. Our local Kitchen Planner uses this company to supply all their kitchen cabinets, doors etc but I have not seen any reviews or feedback. Anyone with any experience or knowledge to share? Many thanks all.

Garage extension: Architect etc needed?
Hello, I have recently bought a semi-detached property as a 1st time buyer which came with full planning permission for a garage extension (i.e. extend the garage upwards and create a 1st floor room opening into the main building). I have never managed a built before so what people should I hire other than builders? Do I…

microwave repair or not?
Hi all, I have a Delonghi microwave oven and grill combo, bought last year. The microwave has stopped working, the oven works fine and I have not tried out the grill since the fault. The delonghi centre is too far and would cost me more then the £80 I paid to send it there and get it back. Is it possible to find a local…

Building Regs? Indemnity Insurance?
I'm in the process of buying a 100+ year old Victorian property. Quite a bit of work has been done to the property (chimney stack removed, internal wall knocked down) and the seller has been unable to provide Building Regs certificate. I'm a little tentative about getting an indemnity insurance policy out, when major work…

any plumbers out there?
our hot water cylinder was replaced today(housing association) and now we have no hot water and a couple of slightly warm radiators - the rest are cold when it is all switched on. I'll ring them on Monday but has anyone any ideas of anything we can try before then? I've checked all the switches and bled the radiators. I…

Alarm going off!
Had aphone call today from my letting agents saying my house alarm was going off. My new tennants have only been in for a week and this it the first time it has gone off. It was fitted 8 years ago and has passive sensors. Apparently, the one in the hall is glowing red all the time rather than flickering on and off. As I…

plumbers/electricians etc: leave them unattended?
Just had an interesting difference of views between mother in law and myself. We need some work done to the house we're buying and MIL was asked if she minded staying round whilst workmen were onsite. She was genuinely surprised as she usually would leave them to do the job whilst she was at work, to return later that day.…

They are also asking for a "Survey Charge"…

Drilling Curtain Poles - Nightmare!
We've just recently moved to a house that has been renovated and when they renovated all the curtain poles etc. were removed. So I've been tasked with putting new ones up. I think the house was built in the 50's, but drilling the holes to put the curtain poles up has been nothing short of a nightmare. I was using my cheap…

The round sink is a nightmare, water ends up everywhere, and there just isn't enough room! We have decided to purchase a new sink and have it fitted…

Sanding stairs, edges of tread
Found an earlier thread about refinishing stairs to be quite inspiring, and I've been tackling mine this week They aren't and won't be smart enough to leave bare but I'm stripping them back to repaint afterwards. Problem is the front edges of several treads are damaged. I'm after having a stair runner eventually but I'm…
