Advice on conservatory guttering
I need to repair my guttering on my conservatory. It's white, square type guttering and the brackets I can see are made by 'Hunter'. These brackets slide into other brackets which are fitted to the fascia by a 'twist to fit' system. These are the parts that are broken and they no longer secure to the fascias. There is no…

Refinishing an oak table
We have a solid oak dining table that we bought from Habitat in 2003. It's really lovely but it seems to be sort of unsealed wood. I think it's a very lightly waxed finish on it. The problem is that it gets marked very easily - any overlooked drop of water leaves a black mark, greasy fingermarks can't be wiped off. It's in…

I would have gone for a masonry paint but unfortunately it was not available in the colour we wanted which is very deep brown called conker. It is…

We bought a house with a loft that could be described as "part converted": there is a fixed staircase leading up to it, they've installed a velux skylight and put some flooring down so that walking around is no problem. They have also plastered some parts of the sloping walls. However, it is still not what i would see as…

Granny annex cost
Hi, I appreciate that this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but hopefully someone can help! I'm looking at building a granny annex for my father-in-law in Herefordshire. This would involve knocking down a current garage and shed (bit of a lean-to) and building in its place a two-storey building with…

Cost for someone to paint the outside of my house?
Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to paint the outside of my house? I have a mid terrace victorian house (1910). It was painted when we moved in 8 years ago but now looks like it could do with a refresh. It would just be a labour (and ladders!) cost as i would supply all paint etc.

Kitchen quoted at £8000!!! can I get one cheaper?
I've been quoted £8000 for a new kitchen by "kutchen haus" - it's only 12 base units. I was hoping to get something of similar standard for half that figure, is…

Laminate flooring - how long to acclimatise?
I've decided at the last minute to lay laminate in my son's bedroom. The carpet quote was more expensive than I would have liked and wipe clean is probably better anyway. He's away this weekend so was hoping to forge ahead and get it done however I notice most places stating that you have to leave the laminate in the room…
