Cost for someone to paint the outside of my house?

Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to paint the outside of my house?
I have a mid terrace victorian house (1910). It was painted when we moved in 8 years ago but now looks like it could do with a refresh. It would just be a labour (and ladders!) cost as i would supply all paint etc.

We wanted to get our 3 bed semi painted a couple of years ago.

Just wanted it painted white. Quotes came in at between £650 and £1200.

Spoke to old dear next door and she said she was getting hers done by the bloke down the road and he would do ours for £120.

Job will cost what you want to spend. Daily rate for a bloke is £100 and paint costs what you want to spend.

Ours did the job in a day and did a good job - Some of the other quotes said it was a 5 day job.

Do you mean painting the exterior woodwork, or entire walls? If the latter, are they rendered smoothly, pebble-dashed, or what?

As queen Victoria died in 1901 you have an Edwardian house and not a Victorian house. In any event, why don't you just get a quote from someone who wants the job. Then you'll know exactly how much it will cost to get your house painted.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • hi, it's the entire walls that are painted and it's straight on to brickwork. don't know if this is a bad thing or if the previous owners did it all correctly

  • as for the comment about it being an edwardian house. i'm sure you are correct but it says victorian on my house deeds and all houses on my street are described as victorian, hence my assumption it is a victorian house. as for getting quotes, i just thought i may be able to get a rough guide from people on here rather than wasting decorators time getting quotes i can't afford. is that not the point of this site? to get help from others? i am new to this so maybe i am wrong in which case i apologise.

I had my Victorian terraced house painted last year - quotes ranged from about £300 to £2,000! In the end I paid £1,000 which included some rendering work.

About two months after, some rendering came off the back of the house. I couldn't afford another £1,000 so I went with one of the cheaper quotes, thinking it wasn't as important as the front if it wasn't as good. Paid £350 or so and it was fine!

I am now very cross that I paid so much for the front! Oh well, you live and learn is all I can say.

I was also burgled the day after the work on the front was finished, and I had asked the bloke to come round for payment in the morning, as we were going out in the afternoon...

your painter painted the entire house in a day? , you must either live in a very small house or your painter had an extremely large brush

I would paint the exterior of a 2 bed house, straight to brick in 1 day for £120, HOWEVER, if you want me to use weatherproofing, seal up any damp spots and do rendering, it may take a week and be £900 up to £1,400 for the whole lot.

I had a bloke paint my house front (including big bays). It's what he did, that's all his van said he did "Your house painted..." £400 it cost me, in 2005. He had to have scaffolding. It took him 3 days as he had to prepare the surface first, which had some knobbly bits and some long bricky bits. He brought/assembled, then removed, the portable scaffolding each day.

They can't do it with a ladder, elf n sayftee.

IF all the prep was done first of course which it won't be and makes it a nonsense scenario - would you include the paint in that? What about the windows?
