He had to have scaffolding. It took him 3 days as he had to prepare the surface first, which had some knobbly bits and some long bricky bits. He brought/assembled, then removed, the portable scaffolding each day.{/quote]Errm - that was six years ago. They can't do it with a ladder, elf n sayftee.

IF all the prep was done first of course which it won't be and makes it a nonsense scenario - would you include the paint in that? What about the windows?
Cheers
What prep? he is asking for a straight to brick entire house, not prepping work, a straight overcoat of what is already there, no washing or sugar soaping or coverage of windows, the cheapest possible exterior job will be a whole day. Its not a nonsense its moneysaving.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -

So you'd paint straight over 8 years worth of dirt then? Excellent practice. Where does the OP specifically exclude the windows? You didn't answer about supplying the paint within your £ 120 either.
Cheers
Thought whether i supplied the paint or not would be obvious, i doubt i'd provide my own tools either for £120.
Yes, straight over the dirt, it will last maybe a few months and need another coat, but thats why i would get these jobs and you wouldn't, but i would do it right if the money was right.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Do your spurs jangle on the way down the path then? But it doesn't really matter as I don't think you are a painter/decorator anyway.

I've got a mid terrace Victorian house too and we've been given a quote of just under £600.00 which I think is very reasonable. Our brick work is also painted and this includes 2 coats of sandtex masonary paint, undercoating & 2 top coats of gloss on sills and pipes. Having a new front door so he doesn't need to paint that. My neighbour used the same guy and I saw what a good job he made of her house.0

Thats OK by me because you aren't offering money saving advice if its going to need redoing in a couple of months because you ripped the customer off. Now if you were a painter/decorator then a) you would be up in arms at my last post and b) you would not be starting threads like THIS. So what you have done on this thread is give the fraudulent impression that a) you are a professional and b) that it is possible to get a proper job on a money saving basis done in a single day. Thats misleading because in the long term the OP will save the square root of four fifths of bu..er all.
i have to agree , it's better to have the job done properly than not at all, i have just done a job where the previous painter painted overgreen mould , in places the paint has already fallen off after only a couple of years , the remaining paint ,whilst still on the wall and not flaking still has the mould growing thru it ,but even using a fungicide cannot be removed or scrapped off , the only way to get a decent propper finish would be to sand blast it back to bare brick whiich is going to cost a lot of dosh , where as if the walls had been cleaned down and prepared in the first place would work out cheaper in the long run , if done correctly it should last for 15 or so years0
