We need to carpet the whole house and need feedback from forum members please. After visiting many shops we have slected from an independent which we believe is reasonable but are not familiar with the names of the manufacturers.
CARPETS
Make. Mr Tomkinson range is 100% man made with a deep pile. .
Amethyst @ £29 sq mtr
Emerald @ £27.50 sq mtr
Those listed below are 80% woool twist.
Hadrian 50 ozs @ £20.50 sq mtr
Grand Twist 50ozs @ £18
Mercado Supreme 50 ozs @ £21
60 ozs @ £24
Eden Twist 50 ozs £22 sq mtr
Prices quoted include fitting BUT not the underlay or accessories.
UNDERLAY
Having googled and read the reviews we need to decide between Cloud 9 and Tredaire.
Cloud 9 Cunulus 11mm thich PU sponge @ £2.86 mtr inc VAT
Cloud 9 Super Contract 18mm APT rebound carpet @ £3.20 mtr inc VAT
DREAMWALK Trediare 7th Heaven 11mm @ £2.44 sq mtr PLUS VAT
Tredaire RED 11.4mm @ £4.36 PLUS VAT
We r novices and really confused with all the info from the shops. Hence we need to make sure that we get it right as it will be a tidy sum and may not afford to buy again for many years. The alternative is to go for a cheaper version.
Members input will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, i would recommend carpet tiles, when certain tiles get worn the rest stay fine like the corners of a room then you only need replace a few tiles not a whole carpet in a few years time.Owed out = lots. :cool:0

We managed to carpet the whole house in off cuts, apart from the hallway, which was a John Lewis carpet.
I think they are all 80-20 50oz weight, plain colours. They have all lasted really well.
Our local shop has quoted us 800 to 900 pounds, to fit the new lounge which is 36 sq yards. I wouldn't say that's a bad price.0 -
Personally I would always go for an 80:20 wool blend (for areas heavy heavy use areas you might need to look for something tougher). Don't go for any fancy patterns that might age the carpet a few years down the line.
We are going to put a very large coir mat (sunken into a well) in the doorway to try and stop most of the dirt coming in to the house. We are only having carpet upstairs the rest will be mainly engineered oak (underfloor heating).0
