DFS - going to buy a sofa from them :(

OK, after a few weeks/months of searching. we have found a sofa we like. The sofa is intended for the conservatory, so we don't need/want a hugely expensive one. We have seen this from DFS:

The one we are after is the Small 2 Seater Pillow Back Sofa at £469 with £39 delivery.

Are we crazy for wanting to buy from DFS?

Is it really half price?

Should we go elsewhere?!

Probably not half price but if you're happy with the price then that's all that matters. There's good and bad experiences not only with DFS but other sofa companies too. We bought a 4 and a 3 seater leather sofas from DFS around 8 years ago, and we've had no problem with them and they look as good now as when we bought them. We paid full price though and they were from a more classically styled collection that was never in one of their "sales".

I agree with "WelshT" above. Maybe not half price but if it's what you want and you are happy with the price, then go for it.

I've had 2 sofas from DFS and they have lasted extremely well. The last one was bought 10 years ago and it's still going strong. In fact, it's still in such good nick, I'm Freecycling it as it's just to good to dump.

Hopefully the black fabric you've chosen won't fade in the sun though? Presumably you've thought of this (sorry!).

Yep, our leather 3 and 2 seaters were full price and they would not budge much on it. But it's still going strong 8 years on!

My concern is with their "half price" stuff.

Apparently it will fade, but not a huge amount, but that of course is what the salesman told us!

We had a full price suite from there >5yrs ago and it is still in great condition. The extra cushions could do with a little more filling now, but that is expected. I don't know if their half price stuff is really half price, I wouldn't have thought so as per the CSL advert which Mary Portas instigated, this is our best price, it wasn't X or Y just Z. Think DFS inflate the price originally for so long in maybe one store to say that they are doing it half price.

Is the fabric going to be ok in direct sunlight in conservatory? Most choose a lighter option on this basis.

You're right to be sceptical at that comment. My ex-boyfriend had a brown sofa in his front room. The armchair was right under a bay window that caught a lot of sun and that chair faded terribly within weeks (this wasn't from DFS by the way, it was another chain - can't remember the name).

You could alway use a throw or something to protect the part of the sofa that is exposed to light most of the time.

Anyhow, back to the price. If it's in the sale, then they stop the sale, the price is only going to go up isn't it? :rotfl:
