I am going to insulate my sandstone cottage using celotex.
I would like some advice, should I put it on the wall then batons then the plasterboard or celotex batons then plasterboard or batons celotex then plasterboard.
I am leaning to batons first to allow the wall to breath.

This is very complex, and you probably should do neither.
Because that cavity will not be ventilated so you will still get damp problems.
I would investigate insulating with a natural product ie sheep's wool or hemp product that will breath itself.
The problem is these are about half as good insulators as Celotex so you need twice the depth to achieve the same.
This work is covered by Part L1B of the building regs so you should inform the local Building Control and pay the fees to get it signed off.0 -
If the batons are open from under floor to the roof will it be enough ventilation.
Celotex recommend putting the insulation on the wall.
I did not mention I was thinking of using foil backed plasterboard.
