Hi I have a Beko WM5120 washing machine just coming up on 2 years old and it makes a terrible clattering sound on washes. No noise on spins. Its less when something heavy is in there but still makes the noise. I argued with comet and beko about it as it did it during the warranty and they came out to sort it, but 2 weeks…

Black rubber seal on UPVC smears black marks over the white when cleaned?
We have a black rubber seal around the upvc white windows and whenever I try to clean them, if I touch the black seal with the cloth, it smears a load of black over the cloth and the white pvc, which then is impossible to remove. Hence the white pvc now has loads of black smears over it. Its probably quite old, we moved…

Ground Floor Woodworm
Have found areas of woodworm in downstairs of my house. It's not extensive but will need to be treated and a few bits removed and replaced. Now...a 'friend' who used to do this for a living, said he would do the work for £500 and we'd deal with anything else we found if it was worse when he started doing it. I have priced…

Help wanted to find right wireless fire alarm.
Hi, I have two of these firealarm which have been hard wired into the ceiling in two rooms. However, the building inspectors have suddenly decided that they want them to be linked together, so if one goes off they both go off. I know that I can get wireless ones, as it's too late to link them directly, but I was wondering…

Laying slabs, do I need a cement mixer or not?
We have always laid slabs on a bed of sand with some dry concrete lightly mixed in on top. It was someone who lays pathways etc for a living who showed us what to do and we've always just stuck with this method. Problem is, it can be difficult getting the height right, if the bed is too high you can only tamp the slab down…

Quality saucepans....not really money saving
As a housewarming present my Mum is going to buy me a nice set of saucepans. What I'd like is a really good quality set, suitable for both gas or electric cookers. And have lids that can be tight fitting, but also be adjustable to let steam out. Without going for Le Crueset, which i wouldn't be able to lift, are there any…

Stripping Paint from Brick
I have some old paint I'd like to strip from a brick garden wall, maybe only 4-6m2. I've read about Peelaway, which seems good but expensive at about £50 for the small amount I want to strip. Would anything else do the trick? Blowtorch, maybe? I've tried a wire brush, but it's slow, painful and not very good.
