Quality saucepans....not really money saving

As a housewarming present my Mum is going to buy me a nice set of saucepans.

What I'd like is a really good quality set, suitable for both gas or electric cookers.
And have lids that can be tight fitting, but also be adjustable to let steam out.
Without going for Le Crueset, which i wouldn't be able to lift, are there any makes where at the end of cooking you can stick in the oven or under the grill to crisp the topping up.
I don't want metal handles that will get hot and burn me whe i pick them up!

Do these saucepans exist?, cost not really an issue.
Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.

Looking forward to early retirement.

I like my Judge Vista saucepans like these
http://www.pots-and-pans.co.uk/acatalog/Judge_Vista.html (I don't know anything about the site it was just the first one that came up)

I like having glass lids so i can see how my food is doing. I also wanted handles on my lids that were not metal so I wouldn't burn myslef. They will however NOT go under the grill / in the oven, for that you need metal handles. I've had mine for over 10 years, although I've just bought some of the extra deep ones as I've got 2 boys who never stop eating!

I bought meyer set from house of fraiser for £60 (reduced from £120). They are heavy metal (possibly steel) with a non stick coating. Although they have metal handles it has a plastic part for your thumb to stop it getting burnt. Ive had the frying pan under the grill with no problems. After 6yrs of constant use they still look like new and are great to use
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

You can't really go wrong with le crueset got a set as a wedding present years ago and still going strong for the ex!

We have managed on a set of M&S £9.99 stainless steel ones bought as a stop gap five years ago and they have been fantastic.

But we are taking delivery of a new induction range and I reckon we will get a set of Meyer Circulon Infinite see HERE (this link shows an expensive set look for deals, but main reason was so you could see the reviews). Might still be heavy.

Agree with the Judge Vista pans but we have found that expensive non-stick aluminium frying pans are not that good VFM.

Previous two expensive non-stick pans (last one was Tefal) - the non stick wears off after about a year and the pan doesn't stay flat.

Latest temporary replacement pan bought from el cheapo shop for £3 last November is still as good as new. I can buy 6 of these for the cost of 1 Tefal pan!

    YMMV

I agree expensive pots are not always to the best,i needed some new pans as my last set got damaged in our kitchen renovation and i wasn't prepared to pay an extortionate amount. i brought a set in ikea cost just under £50 and they can be used from hob to oven.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.
There are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: 'abstemious' and ' facetious.'

I've had Circulon pans for years and find them very good. I wouldn't touch Le Creuset pans.

i have a costco set that i really like. i know that QVC always goes on about the lifetime guarantee on their cooks essential pans (non stick and can use metal utensils) - i don't know about the adjustable steam bit but they can usually go into the oven on a medium heat.

Meyer Circulon - I am on my second set (first were 15 years old when replaced and only had to do so due to daft family members whacking them with potato mashers and metal whisks - but they still stood up to abuse for a long time!), I love them and the improvements of glass lids and curved handles make them easier to handle from my first set.
