immersion tank value

Hi guys.
I am now the proud owner of a fairly ancient copper water tank, having finally had central heating installed.
I think its a storage heater sort of thing.
Simple question, whats it worth as scrap?
Ive weighed it as 21kg, but there may be crap inside it (scale etc) and there are some fittings still attached.
Any guesstimates very much appreciated so I dont get royally shafted by the big men at the scrap yard!:o

Copper tanks are classedf as 'Braize' ie copper with other metals on, including solder etc. My scrap man is giving about £2300 / tonne for braize. Therefore you should get £48 for it. But prices vary on a daily basis. Its still worth weighing it in though.
A word of advice though: DO NOT under any circumstances leave it in your front or back Garden as it will quickly disappear as a result of the well respected travelling community. Keep it in your house or a locked garage.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

Good point well made.
I popped in to a local place by me when I was out before. Without the tank, just to find out prices.
Theyve quoted me £3.76 per kg for what I thought sounded like 'brasserie' but 'braize' makes a lot more sense!
That would work out at £78 and change.
I wonder if they will knock anything off based on the potential limescale...:think:0 -
Thats a good price. They wont knock anything off the price because of limescale. The lower price (compared to pure copper) reflects the impurities in the metal, including limescale.
Weigh it in and have yourself a nice evening out!!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
ive seen prices vary between 20/50 quid.
remember the copper price changes every day. according to the world trade price in the london market.Get some gorm.0 -
Just weighed it in. 18kg copper x £4.12 per kg.
1kg Brass x £2.58 per kg.
Just on £77 all together. Not bad I suppose reading what others have had.
Only cut myself 3 times too...0 -

I can vouch for that, I took one out of my house at 9pm on a sunday and put it in the back garden behind a locked gate (6ft tall), by 9am on Monday the back gate had been kicked in and it had been stolen.
One of the neighbours saw him and managed to get a reg number, the police did nothing at all and I never heard from them again.
If I see him again I will put the cordless through all of his tyres!;)I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling0
