Plum Brandy and Slate Tiles

Hi,
We have just got back from holiday and found that a bottle of plum brandy has cracked and gone all over our new slate tile floor.
I think that we should just use hot water to clean it up (it is sticking - that will be the sugar) but my husband doesn't agree.
Are ther any men out there that get tell me I am right?
Thanks, Emma

Were the slate tiles sealed with anything when they were laid? I would attempt to clean the floor with tepid water in the first instance, not hot. As slate is porous if it's not sealed I think you might be in trouble BUT DO NOT let anything acidic anywhere near them! Alkaline is OK so soap of some description will be safe0
