Creaky floorboards.
We have found a house that we are thinking of maybe putting an offer on. However the floorboards in the upstairs are very, very creaky and would definately need replacing. However I am worried that even if we put new floorboards in it may become a problem again down the line. Does anyone have experience with this?

Plumber worries.
Hi all. I'm in a bit of a dilemma and I'm after a spot of advice. I am worried the work my plumber has done. My friend is appalled by his work and tells me not to have him back. His welds are really messy (whilst that is bad craftsmanship I kind of think at least they will be sealed?) the pipe layout is messy, and the…

Got an estimate for a kitchen with a view to it getting delivered next week - they are looking for the cash up front. I don't mind doing this but should I be asking for an invoice and pay by cheque and wait for a receipt? Just looking to cover myself as it's a lot of money. Cheers G

Refurbishing 1930s dining table/chairs
I have a 1930s dining table and chairs set, bought by my grandparents. They of a dark colour (typical of the period), but I do not know what sort of wood. I'd like to lighten them; can anyone recommend a product and/or technique to use? I'm hoping actual stripping will not be required, and that a good clean will actually…

I've recently had a problem with a rat that had found its way into our house. I discovered that it had got in by digging a hole at the wall. Restoring paint?
I left two unopened big tins (2.5lt) of water based paint in the garage in September thinking of using it in spring, opening the paint now and it is like cottage cheese and the water completly seperated from the emulsion. This is probably due to the freezing conditions this winter. Is there any way to restore the paint or…

Patchy paintwork over new plaster?
Hi there I just bought a new house and the walls in the bedroom had been recently replastered by the previous owners. I had noticed that there were streaks on some of the walls in the paintwork.
