birds nesting in my house

hi
there are birds (bluetits i think) nesting in the wall of my house, there is a hole in the brick i don't know if they've done it or if there was a hole there already but it is a small round hole about an inch across. The thing that is worrying though is that they keep chucking white foam stuff out, insulation i guess? we can hear them tapping and scratching from the inside.
should i block up the hole? i don't know if they would have laid any eggs yet, i guess not because they are still chucking loads of the white stuff out i assume they are still making the nest!
If i should block the hole what would i do it with?
thanks
p.s we had blue tits in the house walls last year (in a different place) but didn't do anything about it because we didn't notice them chucking anything out of the hole and we thought the hole was from an over flow pipe or something as it was under the bathroom, the 'new' hole is under a bedroom window.

Firstly, it is illegal to disturb nesting birds, so do not block the hole or do anything else to disturb them. Secondly, If they are removing cavity wall insulation, I would imagine it's only a small amount, to give them room to nest, so I wouldn't worry, it won't really cause any harm. Block the hole up once the fledgelings have flown (you'll have to google it, but I imaging it will be by mid summer).
I doubt very much whether they have made the hole - It sounds like a hole from where the cavity wall insulation was installed, and the mortar plug has shrunk and fallen out, especially if you've had another similar sized hole elsewhere.

thanks - i didn't know about it being illegal:eek:
i've just looked at the video i've got of the babies leaving the nest last year and it was 08/06/10 so quite a while yet.
hopefully they aren't trying to tap through to gain access to my daughters bedroom and claim squatters rights!0
