Bathroom leak - how to repair ceiling

Hi,
I had a leak in my bathroom into the living room below which has left a water mark on both the ceiling and a wall.
I also have a couple of small holes where I had used a screwdriver to let the water out.
The leak has been located and repaired by a plumber and has completely dried out.
Could someone please advise what type of tradesperson I will need for the repairs. Will a painter/ decorator do, or will I also need to call in a plasterer?
As you can probably tell from the post, I am a completely clueless on DIY so any help before I start ringing around for quotes would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

a decorator is the chap you want. he will fill the holes and apply sealer to the stain, before he repaints the ceiling.Get some gorm.0

Go to b&q, go to where all the plaster is, and buy a bag of easi fill. its white and green. This is perfect for you. it sands down perfect, knock it up like thick cream, keep it thin, and sand down perfect. Save yourself money on a tradesman, and you can use the easi fill to fill every little crack and hole in your house, and sand down perfect.

Easy fill is excellent filler, either that or you could use decorators caulk in a mastic gun. If you dont mind the decorating then you can buy stain block off the shelf at any decorators merchants, save yourself a few bob doing it yourself as well. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

Thanks for the advice. I will ring some decorators tomorrow.
I would love to be able to do the job myself, however I am such a perfectionist that if it doesn’t look 100% right it would drive me crazy.
I will leave this one for the professionals.0 -
No. You may well need a plasterer too. If the plaster board has absorbed water, it will need replacinmg, then the whole ceiling will need skimming, and then decorating.
Why haven't you put this through your insurers?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

I have been through my insurers and they have advised me to get quotes for the work.
How do you know if the plasterboard needs replacing, does it depend on the size of the leak, or the amount of water that came through?0 -

It will neeed replacing if there is evidence of the plaster board having swollen or bowed, if there is cracking or if the plaster skim has dropped off.
You will probably be better off getting a builder in who will deal with all aspects of the work and the different trades involved.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
